Wondering if you are gluten sensitive? Unfortunately being diagnosed is not easy, as gluten sensitivity can be masked in over 200 autoimmune diseases! Gluten_intolerance_symtoms

Today celiac disease is highly studied and understood by the medical world. Unfortunately if you are non-celiac gluten sensitive (like myself), most people, including doctors don't understand what that means.

I recently had my DNA tested for gluten sensitivity; I had genetic analysis of my HLA-DQ genes completed. My test confirmed that I have two copies of the gluten sensitive gene, which means I received the gene from both of my parents and I will pass at least one copy of the gene allele to my offspring. Genotypes that are a 2 or an 8 are associated with celiac disease, but that doesn't mean that you are in a better position! Over the past 27 years I have developed the following autoimmune diseases due to my gluten exposure:

  • Hypothyroid
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Fibromyalgia (was told I have the "chemical makeup and common symptoms" by my neurologist)
  • Abnormal Blurry Vision
  • Abdominal Pain and Distention
  • Chronic Constipation
  • Delayed Puberty
  • Diabetes
  • Gastric Bloating
  • Lactose Intolerance
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Secondary Food Allergy Response

I have seen countless doctors throughout my life for my various conditions and not ONCE did a doctor ever ask me about my diet. Instead, they prescribed me medicine, which often made me feel worse, not better. It wasn't until I flew to Sugarland, TX and met an amazing doctor, Dr. Peter Osborne who taught me the truth about grains and gluten sensitivity. He stressed the importance of diet and to understand that food is your medicine.

Dr. Osborne shared that often the fist sign of gluten sensitivity is terminal cancer or other serious diseases. This was unsettling to hear as my mother's father died at the age of 55 from Adenocarcinoma of the Intestines, my mother's mom died at age 71 of Lymphoma Cancer, and my father's dad developed Parkinson's Disease in his 70s. I also have a cousin on my dad's side of the family who died from cancer at  age 30 and his father (my uncle) is battling cancer today as well. It is crazy to think if my sister and I continued to see our primary care doctors and accepted our medical diagnosis from the M.D. world, we would had continued to stay sick and God only knows what we could have developed later in life.

I don't expect you to remember this list, but understand that gluten sensitivity can be masked in over 200 autoimmune diseases. Check out the list below and if you know anyone who suffers from these diseases, please share this information with them!
